「Presence to remain fluid（移ろい続ける存在）」

このシリーズは、人物そのものを捉えるというよりも、その存在との間に生まれる距離について考えるところから始まっている。
誰かを理解しようとする時、私たちはしばしば表情や言葉を求める。
しかし実際に記憶に残るのは、視線が逸れた瞬間や、身体が空間に身を預ける仕草、あるいは光の中に佇む姿といった、説明の及ばない断片なのかもしれない。
私たちは決して他者そのものを見ることはできない。
見ているのは、その人と光、その人と空間、その人と時間との関係が一瞬だけ結んだ輪郭である。
Valerieの写真は、その曖昧な輪郭の周りに静かに留まり続ける。
室内と屋外、近さと遠さ、観察することと見過ごすこと。
そのあわいを往復しながら、被写体を1つの像として定着させるのではなく、移ろい続ける存在として写し出していく。
ここにあるのは人物像の提示ではない。
1人の存在に向けられた眼差しと、その時間の積層である。


This series began with a consideration of the distance that emerges between a subject and the act of seeing.
When trying to understand someone, we often look for expression, gesture, or language.
Yet what lingers in memory are often fragments that resist explanation―a gaze drifting elsewhere, a body settling into space, a figure suspended in light.
Perhaps we never truly see another person in their entirety.
What we encounter instead are fleeting contours shaped by the relationships between body and space, light and time.
Valerie’s photographs dwell quietly within this ambiguity.
Moving between interior and exterior settings, between proximity and distance, between attention and passing observation, the images resist fixing their subject into a singular identity.
Instead, they allow presence to remain fluid, unfolding through a series of subtle shifts and encounters.
What emerges is not a portrait that seeks to define.
Rather, it is an accumulation of looking―a record of time, attention, and the traces left behind by a fleeting presence.

東京を拠点に活動するフォトグラファー、アートディレクター、グラフィックデザイナー。
紙とそれにまつわるものを好み、日々の生活の美しさを表現する感情や想像力に焦点を当て、制作活動を行っている。
近年は空間デザイン、プロップスタイリング、イラストレーション、執筆など幅広い分野で積極的に活動する。

She loves paper and all things related to it, and focuses on emotions and imagination which express the beauty of everyday life.
In recent years, she has also been involved in spatial design, prop styling, illustration, and writing.

Valerie Yuwen Hsieh：
東京を拠点に活動する台湾出身の写真家。
ロンドンで学んだ後、2年間ファッション業界で活動。
その後はファッションに基づく視座を解体しながら、商業的な慣習よりも空気感や直感を重視した、より広い創作表現へとスタイルを発展させている。
また、重要なリサーチテーマの1つに現代における女性性を掲げ、多様で誠実な現代女性像を再提示することを試みている。
6月24日（水）から7月11日（土）にかけて、東京・神田のKKAGにて写真展「Oh Boy!」が開催される。

A Taiwanese photographer based in Tokyo.
After studying in London and gaining experience within the fashion industry, she developed a practice that extends beyond the conventions of fashion imagery.
Her work is rooted in an interest in atmosphere, duration, and the subtle presence of the body―qualities that often exist beyond language.
Identifying contemporary womanhood as a central area of research within her practice, she is seeking more diverse and honest ways of seeing women today.
From June 24th (Wed.) to July 11th (Sat.), her photo exhibition ‘Oh Boy!’ will be held at KKAG in Kanda, Tokyo.
