Alice’s TOKYO Walk vol.33〈THE PAX HOSTEL〉at Osaka

TOKYOを飛び出し、2泊3日の旅へ出かけました。東京駅から電車で約2時間半、向かったのは日本第二の大都市「大阪」。

I went on a trip for two nights and three days. It took about 2 and a half hours by train from Tokyo Station to get to "Osaka", the second largest metropolitan area in Japan.

ベトナムのサンドウィッチ・バインミーの美味しいお店があるよ！と聞いてやってきたのは新世界。この街のシンボル通天閣がそびえる、ザ・⼤阪の下町です。

Someone told me he knew a place that had delicious banh mi, or Vietnamese sandwiches, around Shin-Sekai, a quintessential traditional Osaka town. It is also home to the Tsutenkaku Tower, a famous landmark in the city.

ビーツで⾊付けしたピンクのバンズの中には、ローストチキン、パクチー、ナッツなど具材がたっぷり。そして隠し味にはシャキシャキの⼤根なます。これがめちゃめちゃマッチしていて最⾼！

The pink bread gets its color from beetroot and the sandwich is full of ingredients like roast chicken, coriander, nuts, and so on. In addition to that, they use pickled radish for a secret seasoning that makes for a great flavor combination！

いただきま〜す。インテリアも素敵で、南国のカフェにいる気分。このお店の内装を⼿がけたのは、⼤阪の劇団「維新派」の美術チーム。みんなのアイディアで造っちゃったんだって。すごい！

Bon appétit！I feel like Iʼm in a cafe in a tropical country. The interior was renovated by art production staff of the theatrical company ISHINHA, which is based in Osaka. They built all of the home interior themselves. Incredible!

お店の壁にはレコードがずらり。買うことはもちろん、リクエストがあればお店のプレイヤーで流してくれるかも。

There are too many vinyl records to count on the wall. Not only you can buy them, but you can also request music to be played in-store.

そして実はここ、カフェ以外にゲストハウスという顔もあるんです。旅⼈同⼠が素泊まりをするドミトリー式の宿で、共有のキッチンではカフェから朝⾷を注⽂することもできます。

Additionally, this cafe doubles as a guesthouse. They have shared room dormitories for backpackers. You can order breakfast from the cafe too.

カフェの屋根裏には⼩さなロフトも。なんだかとっても落ち着く〜。無料WiFi でネットをしたりゴロゴロしたり、おしゃべりしたり、みんな思い思いの時間を過ごしていました。

Guests of the dormitory can use the small loft space freely. It is so peaceful in there! They have free WiFi too, so you can relax while surfing the net or chatting with other travelers.

徒歩2分のところには通天閣を眺めながら⼊れる銭湯「ラジウム温泉」が。〈PAX〉でもらえるチケットを持参すると、冷え冷えのラムネを１本サービスしてくれるんだって。

Finally, two minutes on foot from THE PAX, there is a public bathhouse with radium spring water.The hostel provides tickets for a free sweet soda at the
bathhouse！
